Atomic data needed for far ultraviolet astronomy with HUT and FUSE

Author
Abstract

I will summarize the spectroscopic capabilities of existing and planned space experiments, including HUT and FUSE, that will obtain spectra of astronomical sources at wavelengths shorter than Lyman-$\alpha$. The important atomic and molecular data needed to analyze far and extreme ultraviolet spectra that will be obtained with these instruments include accurate wavelengths, oscillator strengths, photoionization cross sections for six important molecules, and, especially, electron collisional excitation cross sections for both low and high stages of ionization.
