The computing staff manages central UNIX, VMS, Windows NT and Novell servers; supports a local area network of distributed workstations, PCs, MACs, terminals, and printers; and installs and maintains network connections from offices, laboratories, and home computers to other campus systems, the Internet, and national supercomputer centers. These systems provide E-mail, printing, scientific and administrative applications; computational resources, data acquisition and manipulation; and data backup services. The staff also provides consultations, training courses, and hardware repair assistance. The electronics shop staff provides design, fabrication, and repair of specialized laboratory electronics, as well as consultation and training courses in electronics principles and techniques. The staff also maintains a pool of electronic test equipment that can be borrowed, and manages an electronics parts storeroom.
