Ultralow Power Electronics

Ultrasensitive Cryogenic Sensors
Credit: Konrad Lehnert

Konrad Lehnert is developing ultrasensitive cryogenic sensors for use in imaging arrays on the next generation of space-based observatories. The sensors are part of a frequency division multiplexing scheme in which each sensor’s output is amplified by a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). One high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) simultaneously measures many SQUIDS.
