- 1. Bring three (3) well thought out questions about the literature paper to class
- 2. Question on the paper :
- 2.1 How far will a bacteria coast after you stop pushing on it? How large is this compared to a hydrogen atom?
- 2.2 What are the dimensions of a flagellum?
- 2.3 What is the Reynolds number for a bacteria and a battleship (make some reasonable guess or use google to find them)?
- 2.4 How fast did Howard Berg take data?
- 2.5 How fast can a person swim in molasses and still have a Reynolds number less than 1?
Problems set #1 (due Jan 26th)
- From Howard: 2.1, 2.3, & 2.5 (everyone)
- Grad. students: 2.2 & Calculate the weight of a E. Coli cell in PicoNewtons and calculate the average velocity a cell would move subject to this force in water.
