This talk discusses two examples where nonequilibrium physics is clearly richer than linear response, while still being captured well by reasonably simple theories. The first example explains how a simple topological material, the Weyl semimetal, is similar to other materials in linear electromagnetic response but shows interesting differences such as quantized injection current at second order. The second example covers how one-dimensional systems, such as the Lieb-Liniger gas familiar from atomic physics, can show an unusual type of highly constrained hydrodynamics. This includes both exact tractable relations for some quantities and a powerful semiclassical approach for general flows through a Boltzmann-like equation.
