Event Details & Abstract: 

In this talk I will present recent results in a two-component bosonic Mott insulator.  I will show that a mapping of doublons to the spin-1 Heisenberg model allows the high-fidelity preparation of a spin-Mott insulating ground state of the Heisenberg model. With direct control over the interspin interaction energy, the quantum phase transition to the XY ferromagnetic state of bosons can be accessed in a highly controllable fashion, allowing local correlations to develop. As an outlook, progress on construction of a new quantum gas microscope is discussed, highlighting the ability to fully map long-range correlations in the XY state.
