Event Details & Abstract: 

Whispering-gallery-mode resonators (WGMRs) possess ultrahigh Q-factors and strong energy confinement. Compared with traditional Fabry-Perot cavities, millimeter-scale crystalline WGMRs are rigid, compact and economical to manufacture. In this talk I will introduce our preliminary effort in laser stabilization with WGMR against various noise sources. I will also present the development of ultra-sensitive thermometer and refractometer based on WGMRs.
