Distributed Unix systems
A number of Unix workstations owned by individual research groups
and visiting scientists
are distributed throughout the JILA physical complex.
Complete system management services for these "distributed"
workstations are provided by the
computing group staff, including
- installation and integration into the JILA network
- a full suite of public-domain and
licensed commercial software applications
- account management and registration with University databases
- software licensing, renewal, and installation
- hardware maintenance contract negotiation and signup
- problem resolution and consulting
- WWW and email configuration and monitoring
- daily backup and restore services
- operating system upgrades
